MULTIPLE PEDESTRIANS STRUCK 6-16-10 At 13:02 while both Norwood ambulance crews were sitting in station, a patron from Erin Pub, which is located next to the fire station, ran in and stated the 2 people at the Erin Pub had been struck by a motor vehicle. Both EMS crews went to investigate and found a total of 5 victums lying on sidewalk after being struck by a vehicle which had jumped the sidewalk and drove into a crowd standing outside. As both EMS crews went into service they reported a total of 5 injuries and requested three additional BLS units, and 2 Medic units. On all motor vehicle accidents or pedestrian struck calls Engine 02-1 is also dispatched automatically. Along with Engine 02-1 medics 100D and medic 102B were also dispatched. 3rd Amb 02, Amb 01, and Amb 06 were also dispatched. Chief 02-9 arrived on location withing 3 minutes of the call by Amb 02-7B and took command. As firefighters arrived, 3rd Amb 02 was staffed, other firefighters were assigned to help the EMS crews package and treat all patients. Medic 100D prioritized each patient and determined who was ALS and who was BLS. Medic 100D determined he needed a 3rd ALS and Ridley 7 was also dispatched. Medic 100 arrived on location to assume Medical Command and it was determined that we had 2 ALS patients and 4 BLS patients. 2 ALS patients went in AMB 02-7 and AMB 02-7B, 2 BLS patient went in AMB 02-7A, 1 BLS in AMB 01, and 1 BLS in AMB 06. All patents were packaged, treated, and transported within 20 minutes from start of incident. The striking vehicle had jumped the curb, knocked down a parking meter and slammed into the corner of the building at the Erin Pub. Chief Davis notified the Building Inspector of Norwood to respond due to structural damage to corner of building. Chief Davis made company 02 available at 13:23. There were no life threating injuries from this incident.
SMOKE IN THE BUILDING 6-14-10 Companies 02, 05, 08, 43, AMB 02, MEDIC 100D, AND RIT 45 were dispatched at 23:23 for smoke in the building at 126 Elmwood Ave in Norwood. Chief 02-9 arrived on location at 23:28 with nothing showing from exterior. Chief Joe Davis was met at front door by home owner who stated that he had an odor of smoke and that he found a light fixture in ceiling of basement to be real hot. He also stated all his power had gone out. Engine 02-1 arrived on location at 23:29 and Chief Davis had crew take thermal imager to basement to investigate. While standing out front the adjoining twin owner came out front door and advised Chief Davis that he had smoke in his basement 2 hours prior to fire call. Chief Davis then sent Tower 05's crew with thermal imager into 128 Elmwood to investigate smoke source. Engine 02-1's crew found the hot fixture and wiring in basement ceiling and opened ceiling to check for fire or extension. No fire was found, but imager showed wiring to be hot. Power was secured and home owner was advised that he must call electrician in AM before turning power back on. All companies were made available at 23:54 MEMORIAL DAY GRILL WINNER The Dougherty family from E. Winona Avenue was the winner of our 6th annual Memorial Day grill. They won a new stainless steel grill (discounted from Lowe's of Delaware), 10 lbs of hot dogs and hamburgers (donated by Cocco's of Brookhaven), 1 case of soda and 1 case of beer (donated by McLaughlin's Beverage of Norwood) and a cooler. We would like to thank everyone for their support once again. MEMORIAL DAY BBQ GRILL We are holding our 6th annual Memorial Day BBQ giveaway. We recently sent out chances to our residents. We will be giving away a stainless steel grill, 10 lbs of hamburger, 5 lbs of hot dogs, a cooler, a case of beer and a case of soda. Chances are $2.00 and winner need not be present. TRUCK OPS WITH TOWER 69
On Sunday May 16th, Melanie Laird, Sean Miller and Mike Groover from Company 69 completed an Aerial Operations course sponsored by Lima. The members completed 2 week nights and one Sunday of training. Special thanks to Norwood Fire Company for supplying Ladder 2 for the practical day and Instructor Todd Reese for the excellent instruction. Bill Bierman and Andrew Cheezum from Company 02 attended the trainging session.
Physicals We have extended the deadline for physicals till January 31, 2010. Make sure you schedule your physical. They only schedule physicals 2 days during each week, so call and make your appointment. THANKS The officers would like to thank those who gave up the holiday season to help sell the Christmas tress. For those of you that were there, you know how successful the sales were. Again, thanks for all your help. Norwood Fire and EMS dispatched to MVA On Monday night 10/26 at 19:26 Norwood Engine 02 and Norwood EMS Ambulance 02-7B dispatched to a MVA on the 500 block of Chester Pike involving a Pick up truck and a Tractor Trailer. Pick up truck and tractor trailer side swiped each other in center lane and entire drivers side of pick up truck was ripped off. Pick up truck sustained heavy damage and had to be towed from scene. Tractor trailer was not damaged. No injuries were reported. Engine 02 cleaned up high way. COMPANY 02 ASSISTED PROSPECT PARK COMPANY 08 On Thursday 10/22 at 08:11 Station 08 Prospect Par, 07 Ridley Park, and 02 Norwood for a working building fire reported by residents of 1200 Lincoln Ave. Fire was reported to be showing from rear windows. Snoozle 08 arrived on location and reported working fire and led off with 13/4" attack line. Norwood Ladder 02 was requested to open roof and positioned infront of Snoozle 08. Ladder was placed to roof and three firefighters form 02-5 went roof to open. Norwood Engine 02 was requested to supply Snoozle 08 with a 5" supply line. Engine 02 went on hydrant on corner of 13th and Lincoln and 200' of 5" supply hose was hand layed to Snoozle 08 for water supply. Company 08 under the direction of Deputy Chief Gallager 08-9A requested 2nd and 3rd alarms for manpower. Fire was knocked down with in first 20 minutes and confined to apartment of origin. Building was evacuated and no injuries to residents or firefighters reported. COMPANY 02 ASSISTS FOLCROFT CO 01 On October 16 at 20:01 Company 01 was dispatched to a fire alarm at Bullen Chemical Co. Folcroft Fire Chief 01-9 arrived on location to investigate and found smoke in warehouse. He immediatly upgraded to building assignment. 01-9 then reported working fire and requested all companies to lay in from hydrants and go in service. 01-9 then requested Norwood ladder 02-5. Companies 01 Folcroft, 05 Glenolden, 09 Sharon Hill took the front of building and exposures on side D. Norwood ladder 02 was assigned rear of building to protect homes along Warwick Ave. Second alarm Engine 42 Collingdale #2 supplied 02-5 with a 5" supply line from Ashland Ave. Crews from Norwood ladder 02-5 and engine 02-1 operated ladder pipe and a 5" deluge gun on rear of building. Fire was through roof and continued to burn unimpieded for 2 to 3 hours due to high wind conditions which made hose streams not effective. Due to high winds 02-5 stopped ladder pipe operation and put all efforts and water into single deluge gun. Gun was applied to rear cinder block wall. After about 15-20 minutes of working stream at center of rear wall, entire rear wall of warehouse callapsed. Deluge gun was then repositioned to within 30 feet for rear of building and used to knock all fire down. Companies were then given orders to start taking up. Company 02 went available at 02:57 some 7 hours after initial dispatch. Good job to all companies. Member Physicals All members should have received their information about physicals and bloodwork. Sept 22, 2009 At 18:33, Co 08, 07, 48, 02, M102A and RIT 14 were dispatched to the 700 block of 5th Avenue for a working building fire. On orders of 08-9, Ladder 02 crew assisted with ground ladders and ventilation. Engine 08 crew did a quick knockdown. Good job by all on scene. Monday March 9th Co. 2 Due for Brush Fire
